Meet Your Tutor

Welcome to Shakya Learning Co! I am Shea Shakya, founder of Shakya Learning Co., LLC. I specialize in supporting elementary students with literacy through personalized, confidence-building tutoring. I am originally from Kansas City, MO. I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Communication Science and Disorders at Rockhurst University. After graduating, I started working as a Paraeducator in a local school district. After 5 years working as a Paraeducator, I decided to pursue an education degree because I really enjoyed working with students in the classroom and making a positive difference in their education. I received my Master’s of Science degree in Education: Special Education K-12 at Rockhurst University. I began teaching the fall after graduation. Shakya Learning Co., LLC began after 3 years of experience in the classroom as a certified teacher.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, traveling, crafting, reading, tending to my succulent collection and learning new skills. I believe that nurturing curiosity- both in the classroom and in everyday life- is the key to lifelong learning. I enjoy teaching my son new skills and continuing to watch him grow and explore things that interest him. As a mom and a teacher, I encourage others to have a growth mindset and dig into their curiosity to learn something new.

1. LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling)

• Focus: The science of reading, including phonics, comprehension, and writing instruction.

2. SPIRE (Specialized Program for Instruction in Reading Excellence)

• Focus: Structured literacy curriculum rooted in the science of reading.
• Benefit: Equips me with strategies to help children improve decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

3. Orton-Gillingham Approach

• Focus: Structured, multisensory instruction based on the science of reading.
• Benefit: Effective for supporting children with reading challenges, including dyslexia.
